My date might have been fluttering her eyelashes at me from across the table, but it was Cruise Bar's gorgeous twilight views of Sydney Harbour that I found myself lusting over. Sprawling across three levels, my date and I spent our evening at the oriental-inspired (and appropriately named) Junk Lounge on Level Two.
What started as a stall at the Good Food Markets, then set up shop in the Northern Beaches, has now arrived in Bondi. “It’s our first venture ‘over the Bridge,” says co-owner Ben Thomas, “we think it suits the Bondi lifestyle.”
While the name - Mr Tipply’s - might leave you to believe you’re entering a small bar, the cavernous surrounds decked out with wall-sized murals of exotic-looking women clue you in that you’re entering a modern pub.
You can feel the love all right. With the balmy night sky above, palm trees, fresh flowers and cacti of all sorts on the garden-setting tables, Astroturf underfoot, and the broadest, genuine welcoming smiles behind the bar, Love on Top brings back to Kings Cross love, passion and magic.
A new Asian tapas cocktail bar in the vein of Mamasan has emerged on Bondi Road. Although the darkness inside suggests late night cocktails, the weekend yum cha from 12pm-4pm also lures in curious passers by. I'm a sucker for no-fuss a la carte yum cha and the Den does it well.
