One man has died, and two others have been taken to hospital after the three were pulled from the water at a popular Sydney beach. The three men were reportedly stuck in a strong current, and pulled far away from shore.
On Saturday January 28 at around 1.50pm, two of the men were discovered unconscious in the water at Cronulla Beach. They were taken to shore by lifesavers.
Emergency services arrived at the scene and administered first aid, however one of the men was unable to be revived and was declared dead at the scene. His identity and age are still unknown.
The other man who was found unconscious was taken to St Georges Hospital. The third man who was also rescued from the rip was taken to hospital in a stable condition.
Sydney beaches see tragedy
The three rescues took place amidst a series of beach tragedies in the eastern suburbs in the past few weeks.
Surf Life Savers say this summer has been particularly challenging, with many people needing rescue from Sydney’s beaches. NSW Surf Life Saving estimated that over 380,000 people travelled to NSW’s beaches during a heatwave in mid January, and have warned beachgoers to be safe in the waves.
