Man dies following Paddington scooter crash overnight

A man in his 50s has died following a single-vehicle scooter crash in Paddington overnight.

Emergency services attended the intersection of Oxford and Queen Streets in Paddington, just before 2am on Friday morning following reports a Vespa motor scooter had lost control and struck the median strip. It is believed the rider was ejected from the scooter upon impact.

Officers from Eastern Suburbs Police Area Command commenced CPR until paramedics arrived however, the rider died at the scene.

He is yet to be formally identified.

A crime scene was established, with an investigation underway into the circumstances surrounding the crash. A report will be prepared for the Coroner.

Paddington crash: Double demerits to apply over long weekend

Ahead of the Anzac Day long weekend, NSW Police have issued notices that double demerits apply from April 22 to 25.

This marks the second consecutive weekend the conditions will be in place, following the Easter long weekend last week.

Double demerits will apply for speeding, illegal use of mobile phones, not wearing a seatbelt and riding without a motorcycle helmet from midnight Friday morning to midnight Sunday evening.
