Inner West mourns ‘beloved’ local butcher killed in Marrickville motorcycle crash

The Inner West is mourning the death of a local father and husband who was killed in a motorcycle crash in Marrickville on Saturday evening.

Nectarios ‘Necta’ Papanicolaou died aged 34 on Saturday after emergency services were called to Wardell Street in Marrickville following reports that Papanicolaou lost control of his motorcycle and crashed. He was treated by paramedics but died at the scene.

Papanicolaou was described as a “friend to everybody” and someone who “lit up the room with his smile, his infectious laugh and his love of life” by his family’s Dulwich Hill Gourmet Meats shop, where he worked as a butcher.

“It is so hard to believe that someone so full of life has left us. We are deeply lost and in despair,” the shop wrote in a statement.

Marrickville crash victim ‘sorely missed beyond his family and closest friends’

Papanicolaou is survived by his wife Krissy, and his children Paris and George. His parents and three siblings were said to be “surrounded by loved ones during this unbelievably difficult process of grieving”.

“Necta was loved by our customers and the wider Dulwich Hill community and we know that he will be sorely missed beyond his family and closest friends.”
