Ahead of the release of her new single Can I Call dreamy luxe-pop artist Sasha March outlines her favourite love songs, which all played a part in inspiring her own music.

Are You Alright? – Lucinda Williams

Such a vibe. She’s a pro at saying just what needs to be said. And that voice! It’s so full of ache and strength. It’s beautiful. I love the repetition of the question after every line “are you alright?” and how much she means it. It’s such a powerful offering of comfort and tenderness. Not necessarily a love song, but a song for a loved one – in her case, with her brother in mind who disappeared from her life. Definitely an inspiration for my track “Can I Call”.

“Are you sleeping through the night?

Do you have someone to hold you tight?

Do you have someone to hang out with?

Do you have someone to hug and kiss you?

Hug and kiss you

Hug and kiss you”

Don’t Know How To Keep Loving You – Julia Jacklin

She perfectly hits the feelings that make you want to laugh and cry at the same time.

It’s so relatable and balances so well, the dilemma of how to grow, change, stay or leave a situation. Her voice is arresting. Her delivery of the story is effortless. The guitar tones are so damn good too and lull you along with the whole band. I adore this track.

“Don’t know how to keep loving you

Now that I know you so well”…

Strangers – Tia Gostelow featuring LANKS

It builds a really vivid sonic dreamy night scape. The floaty harmonies, her easy grounded voice and production soften a lingering feeling of impermanence. It’s a super catchy melody and hook. Strangers wandering home in the night is such a great descriptor for a love song!

“Sit awhile, watch the moon

Sink lightly into your glow

With the lights up

Two bodies were afloat

We were strangers wandering home”

Doomed – Moses Sumney

A stunning song! Sonically euphoric and moving. Deep sustained synth chords are the undercurrent that swell and fall with Moses’s unearthly voice – it’s ridiculously gorgeous. Lyrically, it’s so powerful too. I can soak this one in over and over. It’s a meditation.

“Am I vital

If my heart is idle?

Am I doomed?”…..

“If lovelessness is godlessness

Will you cast me to the wayside?”

1950 – King Princess

This is a really fun warm track. The space in the production invites you to really sit in it which is appealing. The pauses create anticipation so you can love it even more, every time her beautiful husky vocal and playful chorus kick in. I love the song writing. There’s a shyness to it. It’s a perfect tender love song without being naff.

“Did you mean it when you said I was pretty?

That you didn’t wanna live in a city

Where the people are shitty”
