COVID heroes honoured at Coogee

Street banners honouring the “resilience and commitment of the workers” throughout the pandemic will hang in Coogee for the next fortnight, in a move by council to honour those critical to the COVID-19 response.

The banners, which were created by local artist Sandra Cipriotti and funded under council’s community creative investment program, feature images depicting COVID-19 related occupations, including doctors, nurses, paramedics, police and health care workers.

Cipriotti said that the banners were a “colourful tribute to the thousands of nameless heroes whose bravery and resilience has underpinned our response to the pandemic”.

“I think everyone can relate to the homage to the persistence of life which is what the Aussie spirit is all about.”

Mayor says essential workers ‘have given up so much for us all’

Randwick Mayor Dylan Parker called the banners a “testament to the resilience and commitment of the workers who have kept our community together throughout the pandemic”.

“These banners are just one small way, of many which we owe, to say thank you to the workers who have given up so much for us all.”

The banners will hang at Coogee Beach until April 3.
