Greens Councillor Ms Rochelle Porteous has been voted in as the new Inner West Mayor after defeating previous Mayor Darcy Byrne and Deputy Mayor Victor Macri for the position.

The vote finished between Ms Porteous and Labor Councillor Mr Byrne, with the former winning the mayoralty with seven votes to Byrne’s five.

Independent Ms Pauline Lockie was voted as Deputy Mayor of Inner West Council, with only Ms Lucille McKenna running against Lockie.

Mayor Porteous and Deputy Mayor Lockie both emphasised the importance of a united and productive Council during the upcoming term.

Ms Porteous and Ms Lockie will both serve only a three-month term, with a new vote set to be conducted at the Local Government Elections, currently scheduled for December 4.
