REVIEW: The Big Bake

If you’re looking for a chance to showcase the baking skills you honed in social isolation then The Big Bake is the baking class – with a bit of competitive edge – for you!

Viral Ventures, the masterminds behind other Sydney experiences such as Bumper Cars On Ice, Beyond Cinema, and The Mad Hatter’s Tea Party are behind this event that’s as likely to interest budding Michelin star-quality chefs as much as those that can barely throw together a sandwich.

Popping up on Margaret Street in the CBD, The Big Bake is a 90-minute experience that challenges a small group of teams to prepare a recipe of their choice – for instance, chocolate cupcakes or custard tarts – though the available choices change weekly.

After piping their team name onto a bar of chocolate (the delightfully-punny ‘Whisky Business’ in my situation) teams prepare their treats from scratch, put them in the oven, and play a variety of games to rack up points. These include a challenge to see which team can whip egg whites the fastest by hand, as well as the darling of the YouTube challenge-video era: Chubby Bunny.

The Big Bake would be perfect for parties, date nights, or team building exercises, with lighthearted competition (and a bar serving cocktails) ensuring that there is plenty of fun to be had.

Until Apr 30, 60 Margaret St, Sydney. $50+b.f. Tickets & Info: www.thebigbakesydney.com
