Tkay Maidza – Last Year Was Weird Vol. 2

The title of Tkay Maidza’s latest EP, Last Year Was Weird Vol. 2, perhaps would have been more fitting next year to describe 2020. Despite this slightly missed opportunity the music contained within the EP is certainly no miss.

Across the eight tracks Maidza slides between bass heavy hip-hop bangers and more subtle, sweet and spellbinding pop ballads. No matter what Maidza experiments with she creates gold on this record, for the purpose of this review we had the EP on repeat all day and never tired of it.

Perhaps the biggest highlights of the EP are Shook, Awake (featuring JPEGMAFIA) and You Sad which together show the diversity of styles from this young artist.
