Awning Concerts

Awning Concerts

Across the globe we’ve witnessed many a different coping mechanism during self-isolation and social distancing. Here in own backyard one musician has embarked on a mission to bring music to Newtown.

Over the course of the last five weeks Ed Barnes has been performing a series of concerts from atop his awning on King Street. Inspired by the balcony sing-a-long sessions throughout Europe the young folk artist first stepped out onto his awning to bring a little cheer to a world seeming filled with loneliness and sadness.

“Due to the huge amount of closings of venues due to COVID-19, I feel people really miss live music,” said Barnes. “At first I was nervous about these shows but then after being flooded with messages of support and hearing the people of King Street sing along from their balconies, I decided to do it again.”

With social distancing now being eased back Barnes is set to perform his final ‘awning concert.’ If you live along King Street open a window or head out on your own awning to enjoy this awesome endeavour.
