Dance Nation

Anyone that has daughter or seen the television show Dance Moms understands all too well the intensity of the drama which can surround any teen girl event. The upcoming Pulitzer Prize nominated show Dance Nation turns this drama into a comedy for the Belvoir Street Theatre stage.

Set somewhere in middle America, away from the bright lights, Dance Nation follows a group of young teen girls as they prepare for the most important event of their lives – the finals of the national dance contest. All of the anxieties and confusions of the adult world come sashaying on stage, revealing a dog-eat-dog world.

Featuring a stellar cast of women playing the young girls Dance Nation is simultaneously a crushingly funny satire of ambition, adolescence, desire and friendship and a subtly subversive exploration of that time of life when the demons can get in.

As Belvoir’s Artistic Director Eamon Flack said, “Sometimes it’s exhilarating, sometimes it’s a bit confronting, but in the end it’s really moving… This one will get you talking.”

Mar 14-Apr 12. Belvoir St Theatre, 25 Belvoir St, Surry Hills. $48-$89+b.f. Tickets & Info: www.belvoir.com.au
