350 Days: The Movie
While professional wrestling is seeing a resurgence in the modern era it still has a long way to go in order to hit the heights of the 70s and 80s. Behind the scenes, these two eras are dramatically different. Modern day wrestlers spend many of their post-show evenings in their hotel rooms playing video games whereas those from a bygone era were renowned for their party lifestyle. The two eras do however share one commonality, the gruelling travel schedule, which is were the documentary 350 Days: The Movie focuses its spotlight. The film’s title is actually a reference to the average number of days per year spent on the road by a professional wrestler.
Through a series of incredibly candid interviews with some of the biggest names in wrestling history, the film explores the perils of life on the road, particularly the immense toll the profession has on both the wrestler and their families. The list of talent interviewed for the film is perhaps the most impressive part of the film. Just look at this list of legendary names, some of whom passed shortly after their interviews; Bret ‘Hitman’ Hart, Nikolai Volkov, ‘Superfly’ Jimmy Snuka, Tito Santana, Greg ‘The Hammer’ Valentine, George ‘The Animal’ Steele, ‘Superstar’ Billy Graham, ‘The Million Dollar Man’ Ted DiBiase, Ox Baker, Abdullah The Butcher, JJ Dillon and Wendi Richter.
Unfortunately, the film fails to dive deep enough to truely capture either the hardcore dedicated fan or even the casual viewer.
