The wait for the fifth instalment of The Conjuring universe is over.

The Nun is a gothic supernatural horror spinning off from The Conjuring 2. The film is directed by Corin Hardy with the screenplay and story coming from Gary Dauberman and James Wan. Staring in the freaky flick is Taissa Farmiga, Demián Bichir and Jonas Bloquet.

Set in 1952, the film follows a Catholic priest and a training nun yet to take her vows as they are called on by the Vatican to investigate the suicide of a nun at a monastery in Romania. Soon after arriving the pair realise that what are meant to be holy grounds are in fact soaked with evil.

It may not have been the intent of the filmmakers, but The Nun is a lot of fun. Not that frightening, though there was no disappointment in the jump scares. The film could have focused more on the origin of Valek but even still, fans of the franchise should be pleased.
