The third record from Melbourne’s High Tension features brutal and incredibly impactful hardcore metal throughout.

Purge is filled with songs and lyrics which convey frustration, fear, disgust, horror, hatred and above all else, rage. This record will most certainly be too extreme for anybody not already familiar with the genre.

If however you are familiar with hardcore metal there are specific points on Purge which will stand out. For me the highlight of the record was Surrender with its cleaner vocals making it a much more compelling track, simultaneously the underlying music feels uncomfortably constrained.

In an ideal world it would be great to see High Tension blend the vocal style of Surrender with the powerful music of the remainder of the album.
