Dresden captures that one moment in someone’s life when everything changes, that one moment which is guiding one’s life into a completely different direction.
It was Wagner’s extraordinary Opera Rienzi which 70 years later inspired Hitler so intensely that his passion caused one of the biggest catastrophes the world has ever seen.
Dresden tells “the story of creativity, disturbance and the dark side of human inspiration… the story of Hitler and Wagner, and the woman who connected them through time.”
Playwright Justin Fleming explained to City Hub how an incredible cast and awesome production crew make this vision come to life. Particularly important is the sound design of Max Lambert who weaves iconic Wagner themes through the action.
“The music wraps itself around the play…we didn’t want big pieces of opera, it’s more (that) the whole play acts like an opera beginning nice and calm.. then something chilling happens and it starts getting dramatically more intense.”
Juxtaposing Wagner and Hitler, who live half a century apart but who both act out passion, reminds us of the danger of passion without love and the power of love itself.
