The Walworth Farce

Enda Walsh’s hilarious and moving The Walworth Farce has arrived in the Kings Cross Theatre.

One of the founders and co-artistic director of Workhorse Theatre Company, Troy Harrison, stars in the production.

“This is a play I have wanted to stage for almost four years now, but it never seemed the right time to do it because of how hard and big a production it is,” he said. “I love the challenge of the play. I love plays that have drive and energy. I love plays that are complex and that force you to think in ways and from such a different point of view or moral standpoint than your your own.”

The play explores what happens when we get stuck inside the stories we tell. Dinny has kept his two boys, Sean and Blake, locked away in a tiny South London flat since bringing them from Ireland. He orders them to perform a farce at 11am each morning, what ensues is a blurry line between truth and lies that could threaten their family.

Mr. Harrison said audiences can expect a roller-coaster journey of emotions.

“It is a relentless surge from it’s absurd beginning to it’s devastating end. It is a play where you sit back and laugh through the beginning as the farce takes centre stage. It is a funny play. But it is also an awfully unnerving, uncompromising play. Expect to not know what the hell is going to come next.”

Until Jun 9. Kings Cross Theatre, Level 2, Kings Cross Hotel, 244-248 William St, Kings Cross. $20-$37+b.f. Tickets & Info: www.kingsxtheatre.com
