James Cameron – Challenging The Deep

The Australian National Maritime Museum (ANMM) will be opening an exciting, immersive at the end of the month. The exhibition highlights the extraordinary deep sea exploration achievements of famed director, James Cameron.

Cameron has had a lifelong fascination with the deep oceans. He has led eight major deep-sea expeditions and many submersible dives, setting world firsts including the first solo dive to the Challenger Deep in the Mariana Trench, the first exploration of the interior of the wreck of RMS Titanic, and the first seafloor-to-surface live broadcast.

Challenging The Deep is a collection of artefacts and specimens from Cameron’s expeditions; items used in design and construction of the Deepsea Challenger – the vessel he used to navigate the ocean depths which was custom built in Sydney; underwater equipment and diving technologies pioneered by Cameron; and props and costumes from his blockbuster feature films, The Abyss and Titanic.

Large projections of underwater scenes and the walk through layout of the exhibition will provide an immersive experience for visitors.
