CHICKEN PEOPLE

CHICKEN PEOPLE

This light-hearted documentary surrounds the lucky chooks that don’t end up on the dinner table – the show chickens, and their breeders (affectionately known as ‘hatch-a-holics’) who enter their cherished poultry in competitions.

Insightful interviews with competitors reveal how past torments are overcome by their involvement in this industry, the therapeutic value and oddly, the spiritual enhancement achieved.

These chickens must be perfect in every way and the need to impress the judges is of paramount importance. The cameras follow the judges around at various competitions, as they meticulously inspect the poultry.

Strangely, these chickens receive prima donna treatment from their obsessive owners who suffer from ‘chicken-a-holism’, being bathed, blow-dried, and incredibly permitted to live inside the family home wearing specially made diapers!

Funny and poignant at times, this unique and very entertaining documentary showcases the hard work and extreme pressures involved for these passionate breeders, who regard this enriching activity as a sanctuary and agricultural release from life. (MMo)
