ASYIK For Kids Festival 2017

Asyik is Indonesian for fun and that’s exactly what this festival will provide for the third year running.

Run by the Suarai Indonesian Dance company this community event is all about celebrating Indonesian culture, traditional arts, food, music and of course dance.

“This festival is especially focused on showcasing the wonderful talents of our kids, and the hard work they have been doing as extracurricular dance and music activities to learn the culture of our nearest neighbour,” said festival director Alfira O’Sullivan.

Alfira, who trained as a dancer at the Institute of the Arts in Central Java, leads the Suarai Indonesia Dance group, which has taught and performed in over 150 schools in Australia and toured New Zealand, Europe, Palestine and Pacific islands.

“Over 50 children from different dance groups around Sydney will be performing on stage and they have been practising for months.”
