The Measure of a Man

The Measure of a Man

How do you measure a man? Is it by his bench press? How much sex he has? The way he walks or talks? Is a man any less of a man if he is gay? Critically acclaimed writer Gavin Roach (and star of this one man show) delves into these questions to expose the complexities that attach to being a gay man in this millennial age.

The Measure of a Man takes a different look at the male sexual experience, focusing on one man’s sexual anxieties, embarrassments, and shame.

Roach draws on his own life and experience. As he explains, the show is “raw and honest” and does not “pull any punches” in an effort to bring to the stage those stories that are otherwise not touched upon by LGBTI theatre.

The Measure of a Man promises to be a well-balanced blend of comedy and drama. Roach describes the show as “jovial and humorous” before the “themes turn deeper and darker [and] punch to the gut” as the show explores the “male experience with body and sex”.

After debuting earlier in the year in Melbourne to high acclaim, The Measure of a Man comes to Sydney as part of this year’s Sydney Fringe Festival.

If you are looking for a show that will enchant, enlighten and exhilarate, this is for you. (RP)
