Love, Loss and Lattes

Silks, aerial hoop, pole and acrobatic dance will illustrate one woman’s exciting ode to coffee. Catherine Wait brings Love, Loss and Lattes to the Sydney Fringe. Catherine, who has a background in gymnastics and pole dancing, said: “It’s a solo one woman circus and physical theatre show. It’s basically just me telling a story on stage for an hour about my love for coffee and how it accompanies me every day.”

Universally relatable themes like breakups, loneliness and dreams will be explored through conceptual vignettes. The show was originally inspired by a Peggy Lee song.

“I did an aerial hoop number to ‘Black Coffee’, which is a beautiful song and absolutely heartbreaking,” Catherine said. “During the production I spoke to a friend about what you could do in terms of incorporating a sense of smell, there were all these aspects to a song about coffee that you could bring into the one routine and that sort of sparked an idea, there’s more than one song about coffee, maybe there’s a whole show in this?”

Catherine received “Highly Commended” at the Adelaide Fringe Festival 2016 and “Top Pick” at the Melbourne Fringe Festival 2015, she said of the accolades:

“It was really overwhelming and terrifying at first, you’re inviting people along to review your shows. It’s your heart and soul and a huge amount of work that you’re asking them to analyse and pull apart. Words can’t even describe how exciting it is to receive positive feedback, to have people relate to the story that you’re telling.” (GF)
