Marguerite

Marguerite

A wealthy woman with a lifelong passion for music sponsors and performs regularly in exclusive salons to rapturous applause and admiration. Her magnificent house is littered with props from opera productions and portraits of her in full operatic pose and costume.

The trouble is – she is the only person unaware of her complete inability to hold a tune. A figure of ridicule to most and pity to some, she plans a public performance after receiving encouragement from a dubiously favourable newspaper review.

Those around her, including her hitherto less than devoted husband, are all too aware of the emotional consequences of exposing her to the truth.

Inspired by the life of American Florence Foster Jenkins and set in 1920’s France, this touching film by French director Xavier Giannoli won Catherine Frot her first César Award for Best Actress. (CCov)
