McAllister in Conversation

If you’re free on Saturday 28 November, head over to the Sydney Opera House to catch a very special edition of McAllister in Conversation.

In a surprising twist, interviewer becomes interviewee as the Australian Ballet’s Artistic Director, David McAllister, forays into the spotlight to discuss the artistic process behind his production of The Sleeping Beauty. One of the world’s most loved fairytales, David’s reimagining is sure to be a lavish and opulent portrayal of Princess Aurora and her experience––and as his first full-length ballet in 14 years of running the company, David caps off a fantastic year of dance at the Sydney Opera House.

“This one spoke to me and I thought a lot about it… I had a few really clear aims to achieve. One of them was to make the narrative really clear, as people go to the ballet with a lot of implied knowledge,” said David. “I wanted to keep the integrity of the 19th Century aesthetic… with some 21st Century ideas as well.”

While Virginia Trioli (journalist, author and ABC News Breakfast host) was initially scheduled to appear as David’s special guest interviewer for the event, for health reasons she has unfortunately had to withdraw. Instead, David will be joined by a yet-to-be-confirmed host, with a similar intimate understanding and knowledge of the arts industry. (ES)
