Jesse Davidson – Lizard Boy

Jesse Davidson – Lizard Boy

Jesse Davidson is careful. His Lizard Boy EP is controlled, stripped to almost nothing and very slow. He takes his time playing in and around the beat, which is sometimes the only thing to play with.

He moves inexorably, teasingly forward, letting us pay full attention to the words and the measured voice singing them. The voice holds steady, calling to the listener over a void, sometimes with harmony or manipulation but rarely changing tempo.

This music is lonesome in tone and in appearance, electronic sounds precede and underplay the voice allowing a symbiotic relationship with minimal interaction––at once imbuing in the music a strong sense of connection to the self and consequentially of disconnect from everything else. Davidson is holding a conversation with the lone listener, able to shut out other noise, simply listening by themselves. (SP)
