INFINITELY POLAR BEAR

INFINITELY POLAR BEAR

This is an inspirational true story which delves into the sensitive subject of bipolar disorder (formerly known as manic depression) and the effect it has on the family unit.

Cam (Mark Ruffalo), who is diagnosed with bipolar disorder, resides in a halfway house. Living on the poverty line, his wife (Zoe Saldana) decides to move to New York to attend business school for eighteen months, and Cam reluctantly agrees to look after their two teenage daughters.

Ruffalo’s portrayal of a man suffering from this condition is commendable, effectively showcasing the associated highs and lows.

Most of the fun and humorous one-liners are provided by the boisterous daughters, whose antics will have audiences wondering who is parenting who.

Resonating themes include the importance of family, responsibility, the need for acceptance and the fulfilment of expectations.

This is an enriching and feel-good dramedy which deserves more accolade on home entertainment than it received upon its theatrical release. (MMo)
