Violent Femmes – Happy New Year
The long wait is over. After fifteen years, the Violent Femmes have a new release, an EP comprised of four songs and the hope for a Happy New Year.
The elusive wish that never quite meets reality frames the musical contribution, drawing lines around the understated offering. Combining the depths without worrying too much about anything in the higher registers, listeners are treated to a richness sung all over with a truthful, near rambling voice.
Short but deliciously sweet, this EP is made to sound easy going. Hitting the notes in an improvised manner, without being overshadowed by expectation.
Dipped in sadness, wearing the edge down for the last four and half minutes, Happy New Year is set to come to listeners in June – almost equally placed between the last New Year and the next one. (SP)
