Nick Wales & Sarah Blasko – Emergence

The collaboration between Nick Wales and Sarah Blasko is a subdued cacophony. Sounds wrestle quietly, energy builds without raising the noise level and her voice wafts through it all. Sarah Blasko sings air into the tangling vines, opening it out into a jungle.

Emergence is an offering of seven songs, each one a chaotic moment, grave and intense in creating and then demolishing a world within minutes. Slowly building with each new world there is more urgency, sharp and unyielding.

So much life is jammed into these soundscapes, each a couple of minutes and each without any pretense to the kind of song writing that’s used like a liquid balm through our ears and into our hearts. Emergence cuts straight through the chest, tearing unevenly, leaving scars. (SP)
