Through These Lines

With the Anzac Day Centenary approaching, many are focused on memories of the Aussie diggers who served and died in war. But on Sunday March 15th, The Factory Theatre in Marrickville will flip the Anzac script with a play honouring the nurses who served on the Greek Island of Lemnos.

Based on the letters and diaries of Australian army nurses, Through These Lines is a moving tale of hardship, love and the turmoil of war. The production traces the four-year journey of Sister Florence Whiting, from Australia to the dramatic events off Gallipoli, followed by her life-changing experiences on the island of Lemnos.

Sister Florence finds friendship and love in a world that seems to be at its own throat. She sees the best and worst that humans are capable of and, along the way, she finds her calling.

Through These Lines is presented as part of the 33rd annual Greek Festival of Sydney, a cultural celebration of Greek-Australian lifestyle, culture and heritage. The Festival has evolved into the most significant Greek-Australian community event in NSW. Its growing popularity is no surprise, given that Sydney has one of the largest Greek populations of any city in any country in the world (including Greece).
