Everybody Loves Lucy

Everybody Loves Lucy

“Lucille Ball was such an icon and pioneer for women, not only for women in TV, women in comedy, but career women.” declares Elise McCann, who next week will star in the cabaret about the 1950’s silver screen queen, co-written by McCann herself, along with Richard Carroll.

Following a successful debut season at the Hayes Theatre last year, Everybody Loves Lucy returns to offer its audiences a truthful insight behind the giggles and glamour of one of the world’s most beloved characters in sitcom history. Acclaimed Australian theatre actor, McCann, stars as Lucille and places the public’s adoration of Ball’s show, I Love Lucy, on its undertaking of realistically representing the relationships of its times.

“I think it held up a mirror to lots of people’s lives and they really found a way to see themselves in this world and it really drew a crowd, unlike anything ever before it.”

Playing Lucy Ricardo, who McCann describes as a “zany, playful housewife”, alongside her real life husband, Lucille Ball’s marriage was as complex as its scripted version. McCann aims to entertain her audiences through balancing moments within both her public and private life, as well as showing the real Lucille.

“We really try to interplay the comedy with the real life drama and just honesty of what kind of happened in their life,” says McCann.
