Soundwave 2015 – Twin Atlantic

This weekend, heavy metal and rock commandeer Sydney’s Olympic Park as Soundwave Festival rolls into town. This year’s edition of the festival will be spread over two days with some of the biggest names taking the stage.

Day one’s bill is topped with Faith No More, Soundgarden, Incubus, New Found Glory and Lamb of God. Day two is highlighted by performances from Slipknot, Fall Out Boy, Smashing Pumpkins, Marylin Manson and Twin Atlantic.

Ahead of the shows Sam McTrusty, the frontman for Twin Atlantic, will be embarking on their first ever tour of Australia as part of the festival.

“We’ve never been [to Australia], not even as tourists, so we’re really looking forward to coming down,” Sam said, “Honestly it’s a bit of a dream come true for the band because it’s something we’ve been trying to do for the last three or four years but couldn’t get all the pieces to fall into place.”

In August of last year, Twin Atlantic released their third studio album Great Divide. With a great response from fans, the album peaked sixth on the UK charts and topping their nation of Scotland. When asked about the album, Sam responded, “Its a real weight off our shoulders because we put our blood, sweat and tears into this so that response makes it really worthwhile.”

Twin Atlantic has re-focused on their live performances and in particular the upcoming Australian tour. “We’ve heard a lot about the Australian rock scene plus we’re going to be travelling a long way so when we’re given the opportunity we are going to give it everything we’ve got,” Sam said.

The band will be playing Sidewave shows in both Sydney and Brisbane. However, according to Sam, the fans will get the best experience by seeing them at the festival because, “playing a festival is such a spontaneous thing and you never know what is going to happen so that keeps us on our toes and makes the shows a little more real so I enjoy that.”

Sam and Barry McKenna (guitarist) plan to take in one of their favourite activity which most unexpected and that is to hit the golf course. “The weather down there is amazing which we aren’t used to being from Scotland so if we get the chance we will jump at it because the courses look ridiculously good,” Sam said.
