Say the words: Pana Chocolate, and most vegans start grinning. Those in the know say, it’s quite possibly the best vegan chocolate out there, and many list Cinnamon as a firm favourite. With an ingredient list that’s basically cacao powder, coconut oil, and dark agave syrup – plus whatever essential oils, nuts or fruit you might select – it’s also going to appeal to those who treat their body as a temple, by only imbibing raw or organic produce. Sydney vegans, hold onto your hats, because Pana Chocolate are opening their first Sydney store!
Located in Alexandria, it will be stripped-back and industrial. They will serve up their premium chocolate bars [RRP $6.90/45g] plus raw cakes, cookies, seasonal drinks and other handmade chocolate delicacies. Taking one for the team, I tried three flavours ahead of their opening in March 2015 – Nuts, Coconut & Goji and Fig & Wild Orange. Nuts, dotted with crunchy cashews, walnuts and hazelnuts had a lovely cinnamon note, making it an easy favourite. All three were interesting because they let the rich, slightly bitter cacao be the shining star, rather than dairy, and Pana Chocolate don’t mask its flavour with excessive sweetness.
