Beyond Therapy

The Understudy Theatre Company, EMU Productions and Epicenter Theatre Company will be debuting the production of Beyond Therapy by Christopher Durang.

This production was a Broadway hit in 1981 and will be reinvigorated on the stage at the King Street Theatre, Newtown.

Beyond Therapy takes us back to the glorious 1980s when psychiatrists were the rage to provide answers, insights into ourselves, our relationships and lives,” director Johann Walraven says. “What is surprising is how little has changed. We are all still looking for the allusive perfect life and perfect someone. This hilarious comedy asks: are we willing to settle for imperfection?”

“This performance is set in 1980s America but still has relevance to Australian audiences,” producer Rebecca Scott explains. “It is a period piece that debates and discusses social issues of today.”

“The Understudy Theatre Company is working alongside EMU Productions and the Epicenter Theatre Company to put on this fantastic show,” Scott says. “It consists of hard working theatre enthusiasts from actors, directors, producers to design. We’re impassioned with the work and theatre and are thoroughly excited to exhibit our work to the community.” (EV)
