As The Pretenders’ frontwoman Chrissy Hynde has been a rock mainstay since the late ’70s but she’s never released a solo album – until now.
Longtime Pretenders fans aren’t in for any surprises here, though: Stockholm, named after the Scandinavian city in which it was recorded, is very much Pretenders territory – which is fair enough, since Hynde has been the band’s sole consistent member.
The songs here are all accomplished enough in a lacklustre way but a certain plodding ennui pervades the album. That being said, Dark Sunglasses and Like in the Movies both manage to gather some momentum. (PH)
