Sophie Ellis-Bextor – Wanderlust

Sophie Ellis-Bextor – Wanderlust

Those who remember Sophie Ellis-Bextor as the disco dolly behind tunes such as Murder on the Dancefloor and the Spiller track Groovejet (If This Ain’t Love) will be somewhat surprised by this release. It marks a shift away from the dance floor towards the left field.

However, the truth is Ellis-Bextor began her music career as an indie artist and this release is more a return to base than a radical departure.

An atmospheric record, Wanderlust is a high-quality, cinematic record, laden with piano and strings – but which, thankfully, hasn’t abandoned the keen pop sensibilities for which Ellis-Bextor is renowned. (PH)
