Owen Campbell – The Pilgrim
Owen Campbell’s husky vocals and bluesy style would sound right at home in a New Orleans speakeasy. In fact, this multitalented Australian musician is from Canberra.
The cheeky singer shot to the collective consciousness in 2012 on Australia’s Got Talent, where rubbing the judges the wrong way almost lost him his big break. Since then, Campbell has enjoyed success touring his country style internationally and been signed to U.S. label Reckless Grace.
The Pilgrim is 11 tracks that typically reflect Campbell’s Americana blues influence. However, a curious deviation from the album’s style is Bukhu’s Blues – a Mongolian instrumental that feels disjointed. (LL)
