Loud, fast and hard-edged like a musical hand grenade, Nancy Vandal’s new album Flogging a Dead Phoenix is aptly named. The music is rough fun and over before you’ve even started. In the true spirit of punk, this band plays like they don’t care if you like it, venting venom in a speedy fashion.
Alas this is where its charm lies, in its pure energy, yelling over the sound of screaming instruments, obscenities creating a rhythm almost as constant as the tortured backing.
This album is for those who like Nancy Vandal or for a crash course on punk – you’ll be done in 30 minutes. (SP)
