THE GILDED CAGE

French film buffs will not be disappointed with this latest offering. The Gilded Cage is a comedy about a working class, immigrant couple, Maria (Rita Blanco), a maid and José (Joaquim de Almeida), a building foreman. When they unexpectedly receive an inheritance, they decide to return to their native Portugal to live on a vineyard. However things start to go a little haywire when they have to inform their friends, neighbours and employers of their sudden wealth.

Meanwhile, their adult daughter Paula (Barbara Caprita), is dating the son of her father’s wealthy boss, will love triumphant over money and family ties?

With a huge line-up, and an array of colourful characters this is a highly enjoyable film. (VP)
