This year’s Sydney New Year’s Eve charity is Engineers Without Borders.

EWB is a not-for-profit organisation providing engineering and technology to meet basic human needs. It works to systematically build the capacity of local engineers and institutions. Its partnership with the City of Sydney for NYE means we’ll see them up in lights on the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

“Each new year we turn to the Sydney Harbour Bridge and Opera House as the focal points of our celebrations,” EWB CEO Lizzie Brown said.

“At the same [we] are delivering humanitarian engineering projects to provide people with access to shelter, renewable energy, information and communication technology, water management and disability access.”

Lord Mayor Clover Moore was equally positive about the EWB partnership.

“Their work is improving the quality of life and having a lasting, positive impact on many communities,” she said.
