Set sail on Black Pearl, the 11-track debut from Roger Vs. The Man. Eleven tracks is a good effort and almost half the songs are over six minutes long. There’s a danger this could get tedious but there is so much going on here that listeners won’t be bored.
On the introduction is Black Pearl Pt. 1 and Pt. 2 which are different sides of the same dubloon. Pt. 1 is full of soaring arrangements and harmonies, while Pt. 2 is mellow with a smooth jazz feel.
These pleasant contradictions are what the well-constructed Black Pearl is all about. (LL)
