A neon sign shining loudly, “Visibility is a trap” by Laurent Glasso looms over an eclectic mix of artworks in You Promised Me and You Said a Lie to Me curated by Alexie Glass-Kantor.

Haegue Yang’s beguiling Strange Fruit is a forest of trees constructed from metal bars, light bulbs and ivy-like tendrils of electrical wires. Dangling from the branches are eerie plastic representations of hands, eyes and flowers which intrigue and inspire.

It is joined by Heman Chong’s Cover (Versions), a series of 51 paintings which mingles the titles of books with vibrant colours to suggest the obfuscation and power of language.

In the corner, Jesse Jones’, The Predicament of Man, is a montage of images from history overlaid upon a backdrop of eternally rolling hills, in a visual and intellectual feast.

Eccentric and enticing, You Promised Me and You Said a Lie to Me is a grand voyage into the adventure of human existence. (LR)
