Rob Schneider is the American comedian best known for starring alongside good friend and collaborator Adam Sandler in films such as Happy Gilmore and 50 First Dates, as well as his own Deuce Bigalow movies.
He got his big break as a member of the long-running Saturday Night Live team and although he is “darn grateful” to the popular show, he is determined not to let it define him.
“A lot of the time you get typecast as a particular type of comedian and I want to do other things,” says Schneider.
“I like to do live performances and a chance to perform at the Sydney Opera House will be one of the honours of my performing career.”
The material for Schneider’s latest stand-up show has come to fruition through hard work and life experience.
“If it makes me laugh, it’s the only chance it has to make someone else laugh. It has to hit me first,” he explains.
Schneider says that Aussie audiences can expect a “kind of older, crankier” version of himself when he arrives as part of Just For Laughs.
“At least my material, not me as a person,” he clarifies. (LL)
