Sharni Vinson has certainly matured since she left the Bay, in this remake of the 1978 Australian cult classic.
Nurse Kathy Jacquard (Vinson) begins work in a remote coastal town under the watch of Matron Cassidy (Rachel Griffiths) and Dr Sebastian Roget (Charles Dance) at a private hospital for comatose patients. She begins to care for Patrick, who is being subjected to extreme medical treatments. It soon becomes clear that Patrick has telekinetic powers, but when he falls in love with Kathy, Patrick’s love becomes a deadly obsession.
It’s never a good sign when members of the audience start to laugh in the middle of a tense dramatic climax.
This is one of those it’s-so-bad-it’s-good movies. (VP)
