LIVE WIRE – Sydney Live Music Guide October 24th

Watussi: Rock with a rootsy kind-of vibe is bursting out of the underground, wielded by these Aussie Latino-lovers. Watussi have had stellar success over the past few years, with their ARIA nomination for debut album Tequila, Sangre y Fuego as well as a prime performance spot at Sydney’s Vivid LIVE Festival, East Coast Blues and Roots Festival and the Adelaide Fringe Festival. This night will provide tracks from their debut album as well as their 2011 collection El Olvido.

Thu, Oct 24th, The Basement

Violent Soho: Think Blink 182 with a more hardcore attitude and you’ll find Mansfield QLD boys Violent Soho. Their latest LP Hungry Ghost has been swirling around the Aussie rock scene, destroying everything in its path with tracks such as punk prodigy In the Aisle. They ramped up a crowd in their smaller show at Sydney’s Brighton Up Bar and this show will see the boys take on a much more dense crowd. From their track record, it shouldn’t be a problem.

Fri, Oct 25th, Oxford Art Factory

Palacio De La Rumba: This night will mark the first visit by Havana percussionist Roman Justo Pelladito Hernandez to Australia, and what a way to make an impression. A 19-piece musical assembly comprised of talented jazz and Latin folk from around our city will join Pelladito to perform some of the finest contemporary arrangements, inspired by the addictive rhythms of Cuba. Rumba, danzon and bolero are all on offer throughout this night to get your hips swinging and toes tapping.

Sat, Oct 26th, Independent Theatre

Jan Preston: She is a Sydney-based musician with a penchant for piano and a brand new album. Jan Preston’s launch of her collection My Life as a Piano will show her own and her band’s talents when they perform original compositions as well as some of the most famous pieces from the likes of Beethoven and the Rolling Stones. This night will also allow audiences to learn a thing or two, as Jan will share some amazing facts about the black and white keys, as well as some images and reflective personal stories.

Sun, Oct 27th, The Seymour Centre

Clannad: For the first time in 18 years, Celtic folk pinnacle Clannad will be gracing the State Theatre with their illustrious sound. Honing their unique fusion of traditional Celtic, rock and folk music over three decades, the group has released a brand new album this year, titled Nádúr. This will be one of the few chances to hear their spectacular sound soar through the air and take audiences back to a time when this sacred traditional music was born. (CD)

Wed, Oct 30th, State Theatre
