DRAW – EMMA FIELDEN

Opening night, a crowded backstreet gallery, jeweller and hand engraver Emma Fielden presents a series of inlaid brooches, and a number of key pieces including a pair of 18ct gold engraved earrings and iron rings in both black and rust.

Fielden’s work is unique in that she leaves the waste product attached during the engraving process, using it as a building block to create new form.

For the first time she is showing finished pieces taken from her sketchbook. It was an insight, allowing the viewer to follow through the process of creating the works.

“This exhibition is all about the grid,” Fielden explains.

Describing her work as “a rhythmic and meditative process, always working with line”.

The grids she meticulously measures and draws up in half millimetre increments, and through imperfect movement of the hand creates a fascinating shading effect.

Don’t miss the signature, handcrafted vessel. (VP)
