DIANA

Diana is based on Kate Snell’s book Diana: Her Last Love which focuses on the last two years of Princess Diana’s (Naomi Watts) life, exploring her relationships with heart surgeon Hasnat Khan (Navee Andrews) and Dodi Fayed (Cas Anvar).

What should have been a well-intentioned tribute to the “People’s Princess”, highlighting her many wonderful achievements, results in a terrible and tacky narrative which tarnishes Diana’s memory. With little substance, the screenplay concentrates overwhelmingly on her love affairs, with little mention of her children.

The ‘daytime serial’ style script is off-putting, inadvertently arousing laughter. Watts did not resemble Diana and the film offers nothing new.

As a sign of respect to Princess Diana this film should never have been made. (MM)
