R.I.P.D

R.I.P.D

Nick Walker (Ryan Reynolds) is dead. Life freezes and he floats upwards through a vortex to an unnamed place. Upon arrival, he is interrogated by a uniformed functionary and is given a choice, join the R.I.P.D (The Rest in Peace Department) to hunt the evil dead, or be eternally damned as a crooked cop.

R.I.P.D is a light-hearted romp with an interesting concept but poor execution. The cast is competent and includes Jeff Bridges and Kevin Bacon, but the dialogue is clichéd and the plot predicable. Some scenes have long moments of awkward silences and others rely on American jokes which are incomprehensible to an international audience.

It’s not bad, but seems more suited to late night TV than the big screen. (LR)
