MONIQUE DIMATTINA IN NEW ORLEANS – NOLA’S ARK
Jazz standards are like Game of Thrones. You don’t have to understand it to enjoy it.
This Aussie songstress’ album of jazz standards is much better than that though. It is a cuddly sounding analogue recording with meek girl-next-door vocals that bring a new approach to the genre.
The fact that New Orleans features in the title is very important because the whole album seems to seep that cool big easy feel
Although the session musicians unfortunately outshine DiMattina’s piano playing, this album is still great. It appeals to both the heart and the head. (LC)
