LIVE WIRE – Sydney Live Music Guide September 19th

The Holidays: After almost two years of solid album recording, Sydney indie dudes The Holidays are returning to the touring circuit. Following stints in Europe and the USA, as well as the recent release of their single Voices Drifting, the boys will be in fighting form with their euphorically epic rock ‘n’ roll coupled with soaring vocals. There may even be snippets from their as-yet unreleased album.

Thu, Sep 19th, Goodgod Small Club

Beach Fossils: While the American city of Brooklyn is mostly famous for its hip-hop roots (and unfortunately the scene of Miley Cyrus’s vomit-inducing VMA performance), there is also some indie/pop-infused awesome to come out of it – such as Beach Fossils. Combining the impressive back catalogue of their self-titled debut with their latest 2013 offering Clash the Truth, which reached number 40 on the independent charts, these guys know how to create the right atmosphere.

Fri, Sep 20th, The Standard

Jinja Safari: Triple J couldn’t get enough of mystical folkies Jinja Safari’s debut album. In fact, no one could get enough of their self-titled release, as these Central Coast chums garnered unfathomable attention that has led them to become one of the most revered bands in our sun burnt country. Now they celebrate with one musical meltdown of a night, with a bunch of tracks from their latest work and some of the classics that helped them gain a name in the first place. The UK and the US are beginning to fall in love with them and so will Australia all over again.

Sat, Sep 21st, The Metro

Calexico: Joey Burns and John Convertino, aka Calexico, are nothing short of legends. Their longevity within the musical world has seen them maintain their bond and release their seventh studio album Algiers. A union like this should not go unnoticed. Prepare to have musical genre lines blurred, as these guys present a sound that combines elements of country, indie and mariachi rhythms to name a few.

Sun, Sep 22nd, Sydney Opera House

Parkway Drive: Australian hardcore’s finest exports, there is just no way that you can dispute the almighty wrath of Byron Bay barons Parkway Drive. These guys have seen success that many hardcore kids couldn’t even fathom, with thriving fanbases throughout the UK and Europe. The undying devotion from their homeland fans is what keeps this band relevant and why they continuously churn out masterpieces of jaw-smashing, head-splitting brilliance. The Roundhouse gig will be a chance to celebrate their achievement, and with their past shows including literal crowd surfboarding and beach balls galore, you’d be foolish to expect standard mosh pits from this show. Wed, Sep 25th, The Roundhouse
