ALL DOLLED UP

Gay marriage has certainly been on the agenda this year, so what a perfect time to welcome to town, the “High Queen of Ireland” Miss Panti Bliss and her one-woman show, All Dolled Up.

Rory O’Neill aka Panti Bliss has shared the stage with the likes of Cyndi Lauper in Japan and assures audiences that this show will not be a re-run of Priscilla. Instead, he wants to appeal to a broad cross-section of Sydneysiders.

Hailing from Ballinrobe in Ireland, O’Neill came out of the art college scene into the world of drag with comedy and colourful costumes but has now taken a more traditional Irish narrative approach based on strong oral traditions and storytelling. Even if the show is about the life of a drag queen it’s of “universal appeal,” says O’Neill.

He continues, “It’s kind of a memoir about a boy from a small village who becomes a drag queen… It’s part performance lecture, part stand-up comedy.”

Panti, inspired by the film The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie, is “a sexy 1960s woman with a fun quality,” he says.

She’s “old school glamour, quite prim [but definitely] not trashy.”

O’Neill’s optimism and intensity is infectious so audiences should be excited about All Dolled Up – Definitely worth a look! (VP)
