WHITE LIES – BIG TV
Slightly less brooding than past albums, Big TV is White Lies’ latest album full of monster melodies and appropriate 80s synths.
On this album, White Lies are in line with other deep vocal-led alt-rock groups like The National and The Vaccines, although in the past they’ve been compared to the Editors and Depeche Mode.
The west-Londoners break up the album into uneven thirds with short eerie galactic soundscapes in Space i and Space ii, although the substance of other songs promises this isn’t an outer-space concept album.
Standouts are There Goes Our Love Again and Getting Even; both with driving hooks that hold their own. (KD)
